I’d like to think that Barbara and I raised our kids right. I feel confident we succeeded on every level. Our children turned out to be remarkable souls. But we all know not every child has parents like us that keep them on the right path to becoming good citizens. We see the results in many cases in the epidemic of serious drugs, crime, and countless other maladies that affect society.
Perhaps the greatest harm that has come from shitty parenting is the spate of shootings committed by young people who had no supervision at best, and tacit encouragement at worst.
As reported by CNN, There have been several other cases in which parents were charged for shootings carried out by their children. The father of the July 4 mass shooter in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, Illinois, was accused of wrongdoing for signing his son’s application for an Illinois Firearm Owners Identification card months after his son displayed concerning behavior. The father ultimately pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless conduct charges and agreed to serve 60 days in jail. This asshole, who I consider an accomplice to murder, deserved a much tougher sentence than he got.
The mother of a 6-year-old boy who shot his teacher at a Virginia school last year faced charges. The boy’s mother ultimately pleaded guilty to a state child neglect charge and felony charges of unlawful use of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm and making a false statement while purchasing a firearm. Again, this kind of negligence deserves harsh treatment.
In the latest episode played out in Oxford, Michigan, a teenager killed four students at a high school in 2021. His lowlife parents offered more than neglect, they were willing participants and facilitators in this kid’s sick gun worship. Thankfully, they were appropriately charged with manslaughter and after the verdict yesterday in the trial of Jennifer Crumbley, the mother, the jury foreperson said the fact that Crumbley was the last adult seen with the gun before the shooting “really hammered it home.” And then they dropped the hammer on that worthless excuse for a human being.
The equally culpable father, James Crumbley, will be standing trial next month and here’s hoping he’ll get the same guilty verdict and sentence as his wife.
For years, I’ve been calling for the justice system to hold people like the Crumbleys accountable, with prison time justified for their behavior. Putting the irresponsible family members away to rot in prison is long overdue.
About time.. All children are blank slates. Who they become is determined primarily by their parents
